Premises liability
Landlords are responsible for making sure their facilities are safe for tenants and guests. This means safety from an accident, as in a “slip and fall,” but also safety from crimes such as assault. When the owner of a building or property (a “premises”) fails to live up to this responsibility, they are negligent. If you are a victim of an accident or a crime on such a property, you are entitled to seek financial justice for the pain, suffering, and medical attention you incur.
The attorneys of Pullano & Karnezis have demonstrated experience in earning record awards for their clients. Recent awards include:
- $4.19 million for the family of a Chicago city worker who was killed while trying to protect them during a fight at a wedding reception
- $1.5 million for a victim of sexual assault whose apartment was broken into as a result of the landlord’s negligence
- $1.2 million for a 34-year-old employee of Neiman Marcus who suffered burns in an electrical explosion at the store’s Northbrook Court mall facility
- $1 million for a man stuck by a vehicle driven by an automotive shop employee
- $710,000 for a child who suffered multiple permanent injuries from riding on an unsafe cart at a national chain hardware store
- $525,000 for a 64-year-old man who was hit by a van in a store parking lot, causing fractures to his arm and pelvis
- $475,000 for a woman who fell and suffered significant leg injuries as a result of negligence on the part of a local restaurant
- $225,000 for child who suffered burns at a promotional event for a Chicago-area grocery store
Accidents can happen anywhere; and most of the time it’s no one’s fault. Too often, however, such tragedies could have been prevented by doing something as simple as changing a light bulb, fixing a broken window, hiring a security guard or installing a warning signs.
